Hey, I’m Amani, and I’m the founder of The Wig God Collection. I’ve always had that entrepreneurial spirit. In fact, I started my very first business at 14, selling bangles I bought off Amazon to my family and teachers. It wasn’t much, but it gave me a taste of what it felt like to run my own business. By the time I turned 15, I was already starting my next venture—Brazy Braids. I started doing box braids for kids in my neighborhood, and that’s where I really began to understand the hustle of turning a passion into a business.
But it wasn’t until I was 16, in 11th grade, that I started The Wig God Collection. It all began in Mr. Simon’s Entrepreneurship class, where we had to come up with a business idea and present it to the class. That’s when I had the lightbulb moment: I LOVE WIGS.
Ever since middle school, I was obsessed with hair—especially wigs. I loved getting mine done and experimenting with new looks. So, turning that love into a business made perfect sense. I spent a few days researching vendors and finally found one that seemed like a good fit. With some birthday money I’d saved up, I made my first purchase.
While I waited for the hair to arrive, I used $30 of that birthday money to create my Shopify store. I spent hours on YouTube, learning how to use Canva to design the perfect website layout. A couple of weeks later, I had product photos, a fully functional website, and I was ready to take orders.
That was just the beginning, but it was a huge leap into the world of entrepreneurship—and I haven’t looked back since.
